Using Glogerm

Handwashing Glo Germ Gel

Hand Washing Training

1. After shaking the bottle of Glo Germ Oil or Gel very well, place a small amount (about the size of a quarter) into the palm of one hand and spread over both hands just like you do when applying any hand lotion. Make sure to cover hands completely, especially under the nails, between fingers and around the cuticles. If you have any excess, wipe off with a paper towel. Please note that Oil may stain clothes so make sure not to let any oil spill or make contact with any clothing. This is not the case with the Gel as it is water based.

2. Once your hands are covered with the Oil or Gel, Place hands under UV lamp to view any “glowing simulated germs” that are on hands before hand washing. Demonstration is more effective when it is done in a darkened room.

3. Follow the Proper Method of hand wash procedure recommended by Health Canada using soap and warm water. The amount of time and effort required to remove the glowing simulated germs is equal to that of removing most of any bacteria.
After washing your hands, place hands again under UV lamp, paying close attention to areas around nails, between fingers, wrists and thumbs. If the hand washing procedure was done improperly, then as proof, the UV lamp will reveal the remaining “simulated germs”

4. Any bacteria is hard to remove if skin is chapped or cracked so complete removal of Glo Germ with normal washing will be more difficult if skin has these conditions. A regime with a quality lotion and a judicious use of hand sanitizing gel will be required if the skin is dry or chapped.

Surface Cleaning

1. For Surface Cleaning demonstrations, dust a small amount of Glo Germ Powder lightly over the entire surface area.

2. Clean the surface the way you normally do until all visible powder disappears.

3. Proceed to pass the UV lamp over the “clean” surface; Any area that wasn’t washed thoroughly will show the remaining traces of powder glowing under the UV light. Also you may use the UV Lamp alone for checking restroom areas for cleanliness as it will detect traces of urine without the need of using Glo Germ powder.

Food Cross-Contamination

1. You may sprinkle some powder very lightly over a head of cabbage, lettuce, tomato or any fruit or vegetable to be processed by trainees in a way that the powder is not visible under ordinary light. Please note that the food used is to be discarded after demonstration.

2. Instruct the trainee’s to process the food in the same way they would normally do it, using normal procedures and kitchen utensils.

3. Once they are done, utilize the UV lamp to show how the “glowing simulated germs” are now all over their hands, cutting boards, knives etc. and how they spread unto other foods.
